The Texas Burn Survivor Society (“TBSS”) was founded in 1962 by David and Jane Jayne while David was recovering after a devastating injury from a military helicopter crash in 1959. The Jaynes learned first hand how burn survivors, their spouses and families are impacted by burn injuries and their subsequent surgeries and rehabilitation periods.

The purpose of TBSS is to provide care, comfort and essential services to the critically burned and their families, during hospitalization and post-discharge. The Society accomplishes this mission through an array of programs specifically designed to meet the needs of the seriously burned:

      -Basil Pruitt Emergency Relief Fund

      -Scar Management Fund

      -Pediatric Burn Camp/Teen Retreat

      -Assistance for Warriors in Transition

The distinguishing feature of the TBSS is its hands-on approach to the care of the survivor.

Here we “Turn Victims into Survivors”.

Eagle Scout Honors Madla Firefighters at 5K Benefit.

Fuego 5K, a Fire/Burn Prevention run, hosted by the Texas Burn Survivor Society and directed by a local Eagle Scout, was held at Brackenridge Park on February 24, 2007.

No one will forget the tragic Thanksgiving Fire that claimed Senator Madla, his mother-in-law, and his granddaughter. Neither will the Texas Burn Survivor Society (TBSS) as they honor these heroic men and women who fought to save their lives during a ceremony on February 24th, 2007, at the Fuego 5K. Along with honoring these two crews, we will also be awarding the TBSS Medal of Valor and Community Service to two distinguished San Antonio Firefighters recognizing them for their bravery, selflessness and strength of character.

This is a family event, directed by a local Eagle Scout, to raise money and awareness in Fire and Burn Prevention. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go directly to the Texas Burn Survivor Society’s Fire Prevention Program.
